I Am Because of I AM

Exodus 3:14

“God replied to Moses, ‘I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.’”

There have been many times the Lord has laid something on my heart that I have questioned—not only my ability to do it, but whether I am worthy to do it. I have often battled with feelings of imposter syndrome in my Christian walk, both as a woman and as a Christian leader.

Imposter syndrome manifests as the feeling that you are not up to the task at hand. It is being constantly ridden with self-doubt, questioning why you are in a particular role, and feeling inadequate. Even despite past success, you still doubt your place or position. These feelings can lead to anxiety and even affect your ability to excel—though you are more than capable of succeeding.

We also live in a patriarchal society where women are often questioned about how or why they attained certain positions. This can intensify feelings of inadequacy and not belonging.

At a time in my life when I felt this way, God reminded me that He orders my steps and places me where He chooses. I began to affirm these words whenever I felt less than:

I am because of I AM.

When Moses felt inadequate for the assignment God gave him, the Lord reminded him: I AM has sent you. This led me to a deeper understanding of who I am, whose I am, and who I serve (Acts 27:23).

I carry His seal.
He gives me the credentials for any role He places me in.
Despite my inadequacies…
Despite what others think…
Despite how I may feel…

I AM has qualified me.
I AM has deemed me worthy.
I AM has assured me He is with me.

One thing I urge you to remember: as a woman, you are not a mistake. Rejoice in your womanhood and the privileges and challenges it brings. God did not make a mistake in making you a woman—regardless of your height, size, or colour.

You can do all things despite limitations set by society. This is possible when you remember that even when you feel inadequate or unqualified, I AM knows you by name.

He is your credentials wherever you find yourself.
You are backed by the Creator of the universe to go forth and transform society.

Your responsibility is to diligently complete every assignment He gives you—and do it for His glory.

If others doubt you, or even if you doubt yourself, remember:

I AM has sent you.
